SIA I2, in collaboration with the Forest Sector Competence Centre (SIA \u201cMe\u017ea nozares kompetences centrs\u201d), is implementing a research project titled \u201cDevelopment and Study of a Sustainable High-Energy-Efficiency Construction System for Residential Buildings.\u201d The research is carried out within the European Union Recovery Fund investment project \u201cForest Sector Competence Centre\u201d No. 1.2.1.2.i.2\/1\/24\/A\/CFLA\/001<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Research Objective<\/h1>\n

To develop and study a new, innovative construction system for single-family residential buildings. The system is designed for industrial-scale serial production, where components are manufactured off-site, delivered to the construction site, and assembled until the building is ready for use. This innovative construction system will enable faster building processes with high energy-efficiency performance, using wood and wood-based materials to increase added value.<\/p>\n

Implementation Period<\/h1>\n

01\/2025 \u2013 12\/2026<\/p>\n

The research will explore the advantages of the innovative construction system:<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Climate-neutral construction \u2013 special focus is placed on using wood as a raw material. Life cycle analysis is applied to carefully select the materials and technologies used;<\/li>\n
  • Energy efficiency \u2013 the design of the system follows Passive House Institute guidelines and energy performance targets, exceeding national regulations in Latvia by a factor of three;<\/li>\n
  • Economically viable solutions \u2013 the system is designed to optimize the transportation of components, reduce construction time, and integrate building systems efficiently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The research will be conducted in several reporting phases:<\/h3>\n
      \n
    • Industrial research \u2013 detailed product concept with expected performance characteristics;<\/li>\n
    • Industrial research \u2013 result report; component testing, various joint types (e.g., I-beam, window box), structural part of the model; Smartwin window fire resistance \u2013 EI30 certification and burn test;<\/li>\n
    • Industrial research \u2013 result report; sound insulation tests for doors and windows;<\/li>\n
    • Experimental development \u2013 report on full-scale prototype execution and process performance; measurement data report;<\/li>\n
    • Experimental development \u2013 measurement report; two scientific publications to be submitted for publication in at least two indexed journals in Web of Science, SCOPUS, ScienceDirect, or Elsevier databases.
